With all the delays and sadness surrounding its allegedly-finally-open NYC sibling, it was easy to forget how utterly enchanted we were by the scene at Ace Palm Springs during Coachella this year. Most notably, we were quite dazzled by the booze sno-cones by the pool. So imagine our sweet, sweet surprise when we were reminded that the party continues all summer long on Sunday afternoons, with food, DJs, booze sno-cones for all — likely a slightly classier and accessible affair than, say, those pool parties thrown by the other hotels in the country on Sundays (*cough*Hard Rock*cough*).

Every Sunday afternoon, the Ace will be hosting a pool party from 2-7 pm with live shows, fresh drinks, and food. Throughout the summer, the resident DJ (Oscar Sanin) with be teaming up with different guest DJ's each week. The sched so far:

· May 24: Chris Douridas, former music director of KCRW and host of the Santa Monica station's Morning Becomes Eclectic show, joins DJ Beyonda, host of Portland, Ore.'s most popular soul night and one of the city's favorite DJs
· May 31: Michael Antonia, eclectic DJ of LA's Flashdance
· June 7: DJ Rescue, aka Zia McCabe - the Dandy Warhols' keyboard player and DJ on WK Radio

If you want to make a whole weekend out of it, you can stay overnight on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday and get 20% off standard rooms rates (which are not so bad anyway; they start at $89) and 15% off spa treatments; just use code SHORT20 when booking.

You nailed it. This is totally the classy version of "rehab."

Also booze sno-cones poolside  = brilliant!

Bait & Switch

I am a Palm Springs area resident and have been going to the Ace for the past couple months for the advertised Sunday Short Bus pool parties, bringing friends from out of town, and spending A LOT of money at the restaurant and bar.  Today, I was bringing a friend there who had not been to the Ace before, and as soon as we walked into the outside bar/pool area, we were asked to leave because we were not hotel guests (or pay $12.00 to stay.)  Their staff was anything but friendly about it, and obviously did not care about the money we were about to spend at their establishment.

I went on their website advertising the Sunday pool parties, and there is NO WORD of a cover charge for locals - nor is there any mention of this in their advertisements.  (http://www.acehotel.com/palmsprings/shortbus) I feel like I was a victim of a bait and switch ploy and will be telling my guests and local friends to spend our Sundays and our money elsewhere.  It's too bad because we really have enjoyed this property until this incident.
