By the end of this month, the W Hoboken will have been open for two months already; quite a feat considering how many delays we've fretted over and how many times we've personally staked the place out. With all components of the property functioning properly as far as we know, it's time to take a look at what real guests are saying about the place, and if the commute into Manhattan is really all that bad for tourists.

Of course we're turning to TripAdvisor for the first-hand lowdown, since other sites (even Yelp) so far have nothing on the two reviews we found here.

The first review, a five-star one, comes from someone in town for business in lower Manhattan, who decided to try something new by staying off the island. After mistakenly being issued a room with people already in it (been there, done that), the guest heads to a suite with a view and balcony over the Hudson. It is then that they start with the critique of the details:

I was disappointed by the comfort of the living area sofa in the suite. It was made of stiff leather that wouldn't make it an idle spot for a afternoon nap. The bed in the bedroom was fantastic as always. The suite had a separate shower and tub along with a 1/2 bath in the living area. The suite was quite possibly larger then some NYC apartments! The on site gym was state of the art and had a partial view of the Hudson. I do wish this hotel had a pool, it seems like it would really fit well with the property.

We feel the same way about the pool. Also awarding the hotel another five stars is the second reviewer, a former resident of Hoboken back in town to visit friends. She had more room readiness drama:

From the valet to the front desk, the friendliness of the staff was overwhelming. Though we were disappointed our room wasn't ready they were very accomadating [sic] in handling the situation and our bags.

So far, so good, W Hoboken. Keep stunning everybody with your views and perhaps they'll just as easily forget hiccups at check-in. Just please make sure to remind guests that taking a taxi from Manhattan will cost more than $40 because of tunnel tolls and general New York taxi driver stubbornness.

    lame a bit

it is lame in a bit - but if you think about the locations of the other W's - they're not "A" locations either. these are not schrager or andre balazs hotels. so as much as i would like to subscribe to the idea that the "w" brand is diluting itself by going to hooboken (although i actually think its an awesome place to live), i really don't think anything of it cuz it's not "diluting" itself.
