Neither Ace NYC Nor Ace NYC's Bar Will Open This Week

May 12, 2009 at 8:56 AM | by JetSetCD | 6 Comments

Ok folks, after a few weeks of confusion over whether or not the Ace Hotel New York had secretly opened to guests with prior reservations, the status has been (somewhat) clarified: it is not, in fact, open. Nor will it be, sadly, by next week — even though New York Magazine's Grub Street blog declared that the Lobby Bar will be open only to guests come Thursday.

Alas, the Ace will have no guests to belly up to their bar on Thursday since permits and such are still in the works. It seems that they have, however, been bedding a few friends and family to keep themselves busy while waiting for those precious pieces of paper. We happened by a single pic from the inside, from a recent special guest who is not exactly well-informed on the state of the hotel; you can check it out at his blog.

Rest assured that we will continue to tirelessly track the opening progress of The Ace, especially since we know that more and more of you are being displaced and desperately clawing for information regarding your reservations. Join the club, folks, join the club.

    Open question - Upcoming Res.

Interested in some feedback here.  I just spoke to the hotel (interactions on the phone have been very good thus far).  We have a reservation arriving on 5/20.  The hotel representative said they had a soft opening as of this Thursday and were fully booked open the next week.

Sounds a bit like a similar story that others have heard before.  Does anyone have more recent feedback (or inside info)?

    Also upcoming reservation

Swilliar - I'm booked tomorrow, and have had confirmation from the hotel this morning that they will be opening as of tomorrow (14th) morning. Whether that's a soft opening or not remains to be seen, but they're adamant that they will not need to accommodate us elsewhere!

    ace hotel nyc

We did stay at the Ace hotel in NYC in late April. Our whole family had booked it for a wedding and when they couldn't move all of us to another hotel together they let us stay there. Rooms are nice, staff bent over backwards to be helpful. Lobby and entrance was not done. When they get their act together it will be a nice place to stay. Rooms are creative though a little on the dark side. Hallways need more lighting or artwork. The Ace folks really aren't to blame for most of this. They have partners in NYC who pushed for an opening date that wasn't feasible and now the Ace people are feeling the heat.

    phone conversations

one piece of advice. we called prior to arrival in April and they told us over the phone that they were open and ready for us. We got there and they weren't open, had no lobby ready and no they weren't really open. We did get them to let us stay as there was a large group of us. Hotel will eventually be fine but I wouldn't count on what they tell you over the phone.
