As part of its green program, the hotel has recently transformed its 11th floor into an exclusively-PURE floor, which involved two phases:
In the first phase, the mechanical parts of the rooms' air-handling system are cleaned and disinfected, and a treatment is applied to prevent moisture buildup. The rooms are then sanitized and sealed for a several-hour "shock" treatment of concentrated ozone...which kills bacteria.
For the second phase, a bacteriostatic agent is applied to all the rooms' soft surfaces, which helps repel bacteria over time. [...] The bedding, meanwhile, is encased in tightly knit microfiber to separate sleepers from dust mites. And the air is continually circulated through a freestanding filtration device that the FDA considers medical-grade.
Hmm, okay. Lots of scientific terms. One thing we noticed, though: allergy-sufferers may have to beware of the lobby. In the comments section of the Globe article, a reader said, "I stayed at the Lenox with a friend last year and the lemongrass scent in the front lobby and front desk is so strong, we had to leave the hotel. We got immediate headaches." Hopefully they've remedied that by now but just something to keep in mind.
Room rates at the Lenox start at around $265, and upgrading to the 11th-floor PURE rooms costs $24, per the Lenox's rezzie website.
