Harrah's Wants You to Put Your Rockband Skills to Good Use
April Fools Day is long over, so this does not appear to be a joke and it actually seems really cool, though don't tell any of our gentleman-friends (or videogame-addicted girlfriends) we said so.
Harrah's has launched a nationwide Rockband competition. And before you run to re-string your guitar and dust off your drumset, this is not like a battle of the bands: this is a Rockband competition. Like, the video game. You get a 4-person team together, pick a song from a list of eligible songs and "compete" at the local level at one of 18 Harrah's locations around the country. From there, you're either told to get lost or you move up to the regional competition of which there are four and then to the finals in Atlantic City on May 8th.
And, um, the winners? Yeah, they don't just get bragging rights. They get to open for the B52's at the House of Blues (we assume by "open" they mean "play Rockband onstage") and score $10,000; second, third and fourth-place winners take home some cashola too.
The only catch: you've gotta be a Harrah's Total Rewards member to enter the competition. Oh, and you have to be 21. So your little brother's out.
Get all the info here, and then you can start rounding up your friends and begin to sacrifice your weekend evenings to band practice. FYI, we've been known to lend some mean vocals to the Alanis jam "You Oughta Know." Just saying.
