NoMad NYC Going Green With LEED Hopes and Dreams

While the Ace Hotel wiggles its way toward an opening only a block upstream on Broadway, the NoMad focuses on renovating its historic building into something which will set it apart: LEED status. The NoMad will be aiming for LEED Silver, which essentially means it's being realistic, seeing as how it will have the distinction of being NYC's first renovated hotel with the LEED stamp.

Combine this feat with the fact that Parisian designer Jacques Garcia will be doing up the interiors lush-like, and it's no wonder the NoMad isn't hoping to open until the very last bit of 2009.

Regarding these interior plans, HospitalityDesign has more:

The 160 open guestrooms will include high ceilings, wood floors, abundant natural light thanks to large double windows, and a mosaic tile bathroom floor that mimics the design of the bedroom's Persian carpet. In the lobby, 'everything mingles,' says Garcia. 'The lobby, the restaurant, and the bar become one house.' Other standouts: a glass-covered atrium, a rooftop penthouse and outdoor terrace with heady views of the Empire State Building, and a Turkish steam room in the fitness room

Once both the Ace and NoMad hit their stride in early 2010, will we see a battle on Broadway with the hip and inexpensive Ace versus the eco-friendly and posh NoMad? If so, we can only hope that a room rate war ensues, guaranteeing that the area north of Madison Square will become a new focus for budget-conscious travelers.
