So Much for That :: The Hotel De Soleil Will Now Be the Z Ocean

We knew it wouldn't last long but we thought maybe, just maybe, there wouldn't be another name change until next year. However, the Regent South Beach, Vinnci, The Hotel De Soleil will soon be called the Z Ocean. Really. Really? Really.

To celebrate the name change (and new ownership by Intercontinental Hotel Group), Kevin Bacon's band, The Bacon Brothers, will be perform live on April 17. The hotel will then open to the public the next day. The Miami Herald reports:

New additions: Zushi Flirt, a sushi bar located in the hotel's breezeway, private beach club, private nightclub and a piano bar.

Why the name Z Ocean?

''We were looking for something that people will remember,'' Taic said, 'Instead of `The Ocean,' this is 'Z Ocean.' ''

We guess that does beat being a Crowne Plaza Hotel. Discuss amongst yourselves.

    will the french be offended?

it's kind of mocking their accents. The Ocean. Zee Ocean. Z Ocean.

    lol

I bet they will go for a "contempo urban boutique" feel. The whole thing seems like it'll be a rip-off of W Hotels just like Denizen.

    Miami Herald article

I follow the hotel industry from my home in Miami, and I just read a piece on this hotel's new owner, Louis Taic

    http://www.miamiherald.com/business/breaking-news/story/994523.html

The name and logo are pretty slick and unique, and I've had the pleasure of being on this property - it's a great boutique hotel. Making fun of French, ripping off W - where do u ppl come up with this? I wish these guys luck - launching a hotel on South Beach takes experience, bravado and investment.

    It's STILL a Crowne Plaza

It's bad enough that you guys think "reporting" is adding snark to another publication's story, but if you actually READ the Miami Herald piece you posted, you'd see that the hotel will CONTINUE to be a Crowne Plaza as well as the Z. Geez, if you folks do nothing else, please READ the stuff you're swiping.

    major malfunction?

hey lint, just to let you know...our post clearly stated that the The Miami Herald was the source of this news. we linked and cited the newspaper.

also, if YOU read that piece it only says its still under the IHG umbrella. the words Crowne Plaza were not mentioned at all.

however, when we wrote this story we did see that the Z Ocean was still using a Crowne Plaza website page. hey, guess what? we even linked to that in the story above. did you catch it?

but obviously, this hotel is steering clear of any association with Crowne Plaza--hence the new name Z Ocean South Beach and rebranding. so that's why we mentioned that Z is better than a Crowne Plaza name.

so i cant really tell if you are angry about the fact that we linked to and cited a Miami Herald article or that the Z Ocean is still part of a IHG.

whatever it is, i hope you work it out.

Did they not do their homework?

That is the same Z that ZAZA hotel uses. Looks like they will be changing the name again.

I think the french will be offended

Yes it gives me chronic anxiety that someone would actually be offended. J/k I do think making fun of there accents is kinda wrong. Just wanted to give my two cents on the matter.

    Name changes

I can deal with hotel name changes - they usually mean a change in ownership and service.

What really bugs me, though is the change in Sports Stadium naming. Even the sports sites on the web can't keep track, like -

    http://www.tripcart.com/usa-regions/Southern-California-Coast,Sporting-Events.aspx

It certainly won't help my team win!
