You Get the View You Pay For at Six Columbus

You know the scene. You open the door to your brand new hotel room, run over to the window, open the blinds and bam, you are hit with the anti-view. Maybe you are looking down a dirty alley, witnessing a drug deal, staring at an air shaft in the face, or seeing a brick wall. Whatever you are viewing it is not extremely pleasurable. Help out your fellow hotel mavens by uploading your anti-views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number with the not-so-easy-on-the-eyes view.

The "Pod Room" at Thompson's Six Columbus goes for about $190, while the slightly bigger Queen Superior room goes for about $215 these days.

But in the Pod Room you get this view. Which is not only particular un-viewlicious, but as the photographer, gone-walkabout, notes: "this HVAC duct gave Banshee like howls throughout the night." Oh noes. The worst.

Over on TripAdvisor, someone (who may or may not be the same guest, based on the use of the word "Banshee") describes his Pod Room experience as follows:

The "Pod Room" is that it's view is of a inaccessible courtyard...which has a large HVAC pipe running up the center of it. During the night you hear Banshee like howls as this kicks on/off. If your intolerant of "white noise" you won't like the loud blowing of the AC into your room.

That particular reviewer also noted that he had a hard time dimming the light from the iHome and ended up having to unplug it, which is a problem we've had in hotels and with our own personal iHome more than once (who wants a light that bright on an alarm clock?), but for everyone's future reference: smacking the snooze button a couple of times dims the light.

Anyway, as far as this room goes: our advice? Just pay the extra $25 and get the nicer view and no banshees.

    my photos & TA review

yes, I have 2 nicknames online, I paid a lot less, got a good deal w/ quickbook, about $135/nigh & was only there for 1 night. So didn't mind it too much. But yes, I'd pay for the view, if I staying longer.
