Loyal readers know that we’ve been keeping a pretty close eye on the Donovan House in Washington DC — in particular the hotel’s trendy Asian fusion resto, Cha. And every time we’ve reported a delay, Hanson sighting, or soft opening, we’ve mentioned diligently that the place boasts chef Todd English at the helm.

But! DC is all abuzz about the latest news from Cha, in which Todd English is out, celeb Toronto chef Susur Lee is in. (Lee also heads up the kitchen at Shang at Thompson LES.)

For now, Cha is called, simply, Donovan House Restaurant and continues to operate as a sushi and cocktail bar. Word from Donovan House is that Lee’s full menu should be ready by the end of May. When that happens, the name will surely change though they’re not giving details yet.

Oh, and Zagat says to look for rooftop sushi this summer. But given past delays, we won’t hold our breath.

    but..

    the bartender was pretty iffy.

and he didn't really seem like the type that was gonna get the real dirt.

the man didn't even know what a gimlet was.
