Finally, a Hotel That Opens on Time: The Palomar Atlanta

Here’s news for you: a hotel is actually opening on its scheduled date. The Hotel Palomar Atlanta will throw open the doors to its 304 rooms.

The newest installation of the San Francisco-based chain boutique hotel has a few special features like a “floating” aquarium in the lobby, the outdoor AltoRex lounge, and pet-friendly accommodations.

Now might not seem like the best time to open a huge new 21-story hotel, especially with huge dips in occupancy and room price rates, especially in a hotel-saturated city like Atlanta. The average room rate of about $200 should help, though.

That $200 will get you a sizable chambre in earth tones with just a splotch or two of cranberry to accent the décor. Room amenities include WiFi (free for Kimpton InTouch members), 37-inch flat-screen TV’s, an iPod docking station, a laptop-sized room safe, L’Occitane products in the bathroom, and a variety of pillows to choose from so you can get a good night’s sleep, and our favorite Kimpton service: in-room spa treatments.

However, if you are booking a trip to the ATL soon the hotel is also offering a special opening rate of $129 a night. If you book before May 17, you can get that lower rate plus $25 daily dining credit and a free appetizer. The deal is based on availability for Thursday-Sunday stays through September 6. Use code ATL3 to book.

Many of the Atlanta’s sights are close by, including the world-famous Georgia Aquarium, and the World of Coca-Cola, but if you don’t feel like leaving the hotel, you can just have dinner at its new Italian restaurant, Pacci.

Maybe there is room for another hotel in Atlanta.

    In my experience I have found that a hotel that opens, or renovates when they say they are going to also is very likely to be competent in other important matters, such as guest service etc.

    Stayed there on Friday

    We stayed Friday night at Hotel Palomar in Atlanta. Let me say that I was so excited to stay downtown for the evening with no kids in a new hotel. Well first we drive around and around and around. We did not know that you drive up to the front door and the only option is $30/day valet parking. Our fault - we should have asked I guess.  We get up to our room and open the door - the bed is completely unmade! I was not upset - it happens...Housekeeping probably ran out of sheets, needed to go get more and forgot.  Well the longer we spent in the room the more we realize that they didn't even clean it. Another bad thing - no vending machines so we didn't have anything to drink that night. My husband went down and asked a few people about drinks and he said they just kinda stared at him & didn't really help. So...although WE did not have a 4 star trip, I did enjoy the views from the 15th floor and I think that it MAY be a one time thing. It's a new hotel and they have to work out all the kinks. I am a little disappointed because we were very kind about it in the morning and she didn't even give us Valet parking free for our troubles...Oh well!
