Fairmont and National Geographic Want to Take You on Safari

April 28, 2009 at 11:51 AM | by KatieK | 0 Comments

Lately we’ve noticed the lack of green in everyone’s pockets seems to have resulted in a little less eco-green marketing too, Earth Day blitzes notwithstanding. That is, unless we’re talking about Fairmont Hotels.

Just a month or so ago, Fairmont announced a partnership with the World Wildlife Fund; last week they launched a responsible-travel-focused Global Explorer Series with the National Geographic Society. The series will provide guests opportunities to engage with National Geographic experts in exclusive ways, from lectures by oceanographers to safari excursions, which reflect NatGeo’s “commitment to responsible tourism and the environment.”

We must say, the first three offerings are pretty sweet (albeit pricey). Check out the full schedule here:

1. Fly Fishing Package, May 29-31, featuring guest speaker aquatic ecologist Zeb Hogan, plus fly fishing at Quebec’s Fairmont Kenauk, two-nights stay at Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello, meals, et al. Rates start at $549 CDN.

2. Treasures of the Sea Package, July 17-19, featuring a gala evening with marine ecologist Dr. Enric Sala and Prince Albert of Monaco, plus two-nights stay in a seaview room at Fairmont Monte Carlo, breakfast, half-day private excursion on Prince Albert’s yacht (Tuiga), lunch on the terrace of the Yacht Club of Monaco. Rates start at €799 per person, tax/service included.

3. Kenya Photo Safari Adventure, Sept. 1-10, featuring a luxe Kenyan safari with National Geographic wildlife photog Michael Nichols that includes a full-day photo safari game drive, hot air balloon ride, champagne breakfast, visit to a Maasai village, meals, guided city tour of Nairobi, lodgings at Larsens Camp in Samburu National Reserve and at Fairmont The Norfolk, Fairmont Mara Safari Club and Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club. Rates start at $7,690 per person.

P.S. The partnership also means Fairmont President’s Club members can now enjoy savings on National Geographic Society publications and merchandise.
