The iconic Clevelander Hotel ("The Cleve," if you will) in South Beach has just emerged from a multi-million dollar renovation, debuting this weekend with 60 spruced-up rooms and "Rockstar" Suites, revamped bars and public spaces, a brand new Rooftop Terrace and Sun Deck, and a new indoor nightlife venue called 1020 Music Boxx.

The newly-restyled rooms look fly: they now have Egyptian Cotton bedding, black-out curtains and noise-reducing wall systems (these are nice in Miami), free WiFi, HD TV's and rain showers. The room decor "features deep-blue abstract designs and artwork of underwater scenes" that complement its ocean views or South Beach views.

The Cleve is celebrating the debut of its new look in true Miami style: with an all-weekend party. Its Grand Re-Opening Weekend kicks off on Friday night and lasts all the way to Sunday, packed with live performances and lots and lots of booze — and probably lots of cleavage, too. According to Soul of Miami, The Clevelander opens to the public at 9:00 PM on Thursday, April 30th, where Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is... will perform on the Pool + Patio Deck.

The rest of the weekend's schedule:

Friday, May 1st: DJ Jazzy Jeff Performs on Pool + Patio Deck: 8:00 PM
djMIA Performs in 1020 Music Boxx: 10:00 PM
Saturday, May 2nd: DJ Irie + Sky Nellor Perform on Pool + Patio Deck: 2:00 PM
DJ Z-Trip + Star Eyes Perform on Pool + Patio Deck: 8:00 PM
Jungle Brothers Perform in 1020 Music Boxx: 10:00 PM
Sunday, May 3rd: Inner Circle Perform on Pool + Patio Deck: 2:00 PM

More info can be found here; rates at The Clevelander start at $179 and renderings of the new rooms are shown (in teensy images) on the website.

The Strand

What this means is that it's finally safe to stay in the Strand Ocean Drive, which is located next door. During the renovation, construction noise from the Cleve made a stay in the southernmost building of the Strand absolutely unbearable. So naturally, that's where they put all the Priceline people. Everything seemed fine until 7:00 a.m., when they started blasting, smashing, and bulldozing. We only were able to escape to a quieter room after our bed broke. True story.
