It's ready! The Sanctum Soho — London's new "rock star hotel," and possibly the one we've heard the most rumors about in a long time (recall the Iron Maiden thing), opens its doors tomorrow.

Luckily for us, we got a sneak peek on Monday. Unfortunately, it was at the very un-rockstar time of 8am, so most of the rooms were taken (friends of owner Mark Fuller have been road-testing it for the past few weeks) and there wasn't really a distinctive "vibe" established — but we liked it.

There are only 30 rooms, all of which are built for romping, from huge suites to (our favorites) the "crashpads," called-so because they're for crashing when you get caught late in town or happen to find yourself on a date that's going particularly well (but your moldy apartment might endanger the mood). There are no wardrobes in these ones; there's just about room for a bed, a minibar, a TV and a bathroom — but that's part of the fun, isn't it? The decor's fab too: in the room we saw, the wallpaper was a combo of dark brown, sparkly lurex, and brown sheeny pebbles. It was very dark, but that, again, was probably intentional.

If you like your rooms a bit lighter and airier, though, there are five other color schemes around the hotel, including the ultra-girly white job we got on video (check the bathroom wallpaper — twee-licious). There are also black bathrooms in some of the guestrooms, which we really liked.

Our favorite bit? The roof terrace, complete with an eight-seater jacuzzi and a 24-hour bar reserved exclusively for hotel guests. Fab.

And to debunk those rumours (serves them right for teasing us, though): The staffers are not going to be dressed all in black, a la Heartbreak Hotel. The basement cinema is not going to be screening Notorious on repeat. It's not owned by Iron Maiden (although Maiden managers Andy Taylor and Rod Smallwood are backing it financially). And they're not planning on offering Jack Daniels baths (although there are giant bottles of Jack in the minibar).

In fact, the minibar's our only gripe. Great idea to have normal-sized bottles rather than miniatures in there; not great when they cost £56, as the JD does. That could lead to some rather expensive mistakes if you get carried away.

Of course the real test will be the clientele. Will the people who check in there make it a too cool for school kinda place? Hopefully not, because we really liked it.

Until May 30, crashpads cost £125 and bigger rooms run from £210 up. After that, they'll set you back £175 and £300 respectively.
