Despite its $1 billion industry, Oregon’s wine country is still something of a mystery compared to better known regions like Napa and Sonoma, and lodging options have been limited to small B&B’s, farmhouses and inns. By August 2009, though, oenophiles in search of luxury among the vines will have a new option at the Allison Inn and Spa in Yamhill County, just 20 miles southwest of Portland.

The resort plans to open with 85 guestrooms and suites with terraces or balconies, fireplaces and original artwork. There will also be a spa “with sublime extras,” and a restaurant whose menu will be inspired by the local Oregon farm fare. Since this is wine country, the resort’s grounds will also feature 30 acres of vineyards, gardens and footpaths. As of now, the room rates will start at $295 per night, and range up to $1000 per night for the grand suite.

The Allison will also have a concierge service to help guests craft personalized visits to some of the 200 nearby wineries of the Willamette Valley because, admit it, you don’t know much about the area's Pinot Noirs either.

Seriously stunning place... I am very excited to see what becomes of it.  So ahead of its time, a lot of locals don't even "get" it yet.  Soon however, the commerce and revenue brought to town will change that tune. =)

I like that article.  Especially the gent that was quoted without knowing the WV is a wine region.  whoops.  I empathize tho... I have gotten caught with printed mistakes like that before.  Wish i could delete some of my best.  haha.

Since my college days at the University of Oregon, the Willamette Valley wine region has matured into a lovely bouquet of B&B's and Inns. I look forward to checking out Yamhill County's first resort of this kind.
