Choice Hotels' iPhone App Makes a Whole Lot of Sense

April 3, 2009 at 12:47 PM | by Jenna | 1 Comment

Choice Hotels' hot little new iPhone application, which, officially, is the first global hotel booking app launched by a hotel company, allows users to find and reserve rooms at any of the 5,800+ Choice hotels in the whole wide world — that's Comfort Inn, Clarion, MainStay Suites and other budget brands.

Totally appropriate? We think so, since those are the types of hotels we find ourselves booking on the fly and staying in on long-haul road trips and such; it's gonna be nice to be able to hop onto our iPhones wherever we are and find and book hotels close by.

The app allows you to:

· Find hotels on a map based on your current position
· Make changes to or cancel existing reservations
· Get door-to-door directions to and from any Choice hotel
· See street views of the hotel as well as images of the hotels themselves
· Locate hotels by city, zip code, airport code or attraction

Sounds hot, right? Well, we attempted to download the app to our iPod Touch to check it out ourselves (not all of us at HC HQ have abandoned the Blackberry as our PDA-of-choice yet). Unfortunately, our iTunes told us that the application wasn't compatible with our little device — which makes sense, we suppose, because we don't usually find ourselves connected to a WiFi network when we're in a moving car on the highway.

Bottom line: in theory, this is a fantastic idea and Choice definitely has the brands to pull this off — 'cause, like we said, it's unlikely that a whole lot of people will be turning to their collection of iPhone apps in search of a Four Seasons when they find themselves in a pinch.

But does it work? Anyone tried it? Tell us.

    Great app.

I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago.  It is fantastic.  If you click find hotels near me, it will use the GPS to find the nearest hotels.  It also allows you track your Choice Priveleges points.  The integration with Google Maps is sweet.
