We were excited to learn last week that Eurostars hotels in Barcelona are giving guests MP3 players to guide them 'round the city. But now we've heard of something even better: how about a GPS-based tour (so you don't have to engage your brain to work out what you're looking at) that takes place in a car to save your tootsies?
The sexy Hotel Miramar on Montjuic hill overlooking the city has teamed up with GoCar, which has a fleet of little yellow electric cars each stocked with a GPS and an audioguide to the city. This is a good thing, because, having been to Barcelona, we can vouch for the fact that it's pretty sprawling and the sights are fairly spaced out.
Plus, who wouldn't want to toddle around in an eye-catching cutie like this? We tried a tour like this in Washington DC last year, and we felt as adored by the crowds as a bride on her wedding day.
We stayed at the Miramar back in January and loved it. The only problem? It's pretty far out of town, and although buses down Montjuic are frequent (and there's also a funicular railway to get you down in a more novel fashion), it isn't as convenient as being in the center of town but then again, the location does offer fantastic views.
Also, beware that some of the bathrooms are pretty open: we're talking gauze shielding the bath and basin area (although there is, thankfully, a door to the throne itself). Still, we'd go back any time.
The Miramar's GoCar package costs $327 per night for two people, including two hours GoCar rental. Otherwise, cars cost $46 an hour, and rooms start at $164 (book two days ahead to get this rate).
