Pay Only For What You Use With Shangri-La's CustomStay

We're big fans of getting something for nothing. But what about getting something for a small extra cost? Doesn't sound quite as sexy but the Shangri-La hotel group has launched CustomStay which, although sounding a bit like the strategy of a no-frills airline, does sound like a decent idea.
CustomStay works like this: as you book your Shangri-La room online, and choose the "Best Available Rate" option, you'll then get a screen offering you a range of other services like airport transfers, breakfast, laundry, spa treatments and resort activities. The neat trick is that you pay a lower room rate if you don't want any of these, and if you do, the individual service costs get cheaper the more you request.
For example, we tried out booking a room at the Shangri-La Sydney. The best available rate for a double was A$250 and we could add items like breakfast, massages, movies, and dining credit. For example, we managed to score A$120 worth of restaurant cash for just A$102; definitely worth it if you know you're going to eat in.
Since the Shangri-La hotel group was proudly the first to offer free Internet in every hotel across the world, WiFi access isn't on the purchasable services list another thing in their favor. Basically the whole CustomStay idea sounds tailor-made for economic crisis times. Though it could probably do with a cooler name, no?
