Well, we don't know when we can expect Thompson Toronto (our guess is that it won't be opening its doors anytime soon), but whenever it does arrive, we're not so sure we're going to be jumping at the chance to stay there over the comparably-chic Le Germain — if only for the WiFi situation.

We couldn't resist this shot of Le Germain, courtesy of Flickr user ScottSimpson, who says:

Toronto's Hotel Le Germain: awesome. My favorite North American hotel. It's a more mellow, spacious, considerate version of NY's SoHo Grand, at Hyatt prices. CAD $230 included a sweet room, incredible shower, simple but good breakfast, and blazing WiFi. It's downtown, easy walk to CN Tower and Queen Street. The great service here was a perfect start to a really enjoyable couple days in Toronto.

The only potential drawback: it's definitely a Wallpaper style hotel; if you're more into classic / historical (a category I prefer to think of as "shitty water pressure"), then this place is not for you.

Hmmm, blazing-fast free WiFi, or $10.95 at the when-is-it-gonna-open Thompson? You know how much we value our Internet...

The Clarendon - Phoenix - BLAZING Wi-Fi

Here at The Clarendon we do not charge for internet, or even for international telephone calls, even better, we don't restrict bandwidth, so you usually have a 6-8Mbps download speed at all times... sweet!  I hate when people stay at a major chain property and pay $15-20/day for internet, and only get a connection that's 128kbps... we offer a connection that's 50 times faster than a lot of hotel chains, for FREE!
