Surprise, Surprise: Ace Hotel NYC Did Not Open Today

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 20 West 29th Street [map], New York, NY, United States, 10001

We wish this were an April Fool's joke, but it seems that the Ace Hotel New York continues to be wishy-washy with their projected opening dates, as today is supposed to be the day, but isn't. The day will close without the first guests resting their heads on Ace pillows, and it's looking like all of April will follow suit.

While surfing the Ace's reservations page, we couldn't help but notice that all rooms aside from the $559+ Loft have been removed until May 1, a day which then reveals the bunk bed rooms starting at $169 instead of the earlier estimated $99. With no official word from the Ace people, we're wondering if they'll just one day open up without fanfare and hope everything doesn't fall apart.

In the meantime, at least we've heard some rumors about the restaurant to come at the Ace. To be called "Breslin" after the building's Hotel Breslin SRO name, it will be "meat-centric" and open in June. Sounds great, but will it be able to beat the sensationalism of the Ace Hotel Portland's hot dog tray with miraculous portrait of Abraham Lincoln? Guess we'll just have to wait patiently and hope for the best.

Thanks for the comment. That is really disappointing I'm sure, as the Ace would be so unique for an NYC stay after its opening. Do you think the place they offered you is as cool?

    late opening

I have a reservation for 3 nights in the first week of april at this hotel, and let me say that they not seem to be so pro... if i didn't call to know what is happening with my reservation i think they won't have call me... they made something like 3 differents reservation under my name (!!!)... and now they offer us to stay at the carlton on madison but they still don't send us any confirmation...
I understand that managing a late openning is something though!!! but i think that is their job...
Understand me i was dying to stay at the ace but what a mess...

    Carlton for 99 $ a night :-)

we had booked the ace for one week starting end of april (roomtype: cheap for the brilliantly low prize of 99 $ per night) and got a standard room (I think) for the same prize at the carlton, madison ave instead. we were even slightly upgraded to a room with a queen bed. everything regarding the reservation went fine and we enjoyed our stay very much. quite a bargain. good location, too. and what an amazing city NY is, but you knew that already, I guess..
