American Express has just teamed up with Hilton to kick off an "interactive online race" which is kind of like the Amazing Race except involving virtual travel instead of actual travel that can result in some seriously impressive Hilton prizes for you (and six other people!)
The "Advance Your World Challenge" launched on March 1st and is meant to promote the new Hilton HHonors American Express Surpass Card and it seems to promote some online competition too:
The Challenge is made up of seven thrilling race courses around the globe that participants navigate using iconic vehicles in each destination, including a taxi cab in New York City, a motorcycle in Tokyo, a gondola in Venice, and a paraglider in Costa Rica. As online world travelers proceed through a course, they collect randomly placed icons that represent and provide information about the benefits of the Hilton HHonors Card from American Express [...] Collecting an icon can help to improve a player’s race time by allowing the player to go faster, providing invincibility to obstacles, or even subtracting from the user’s overall final time.
At stake for the seven racers with the fastest times: one million Hilton HHonors bonus points (which works out to 25 free nights at a "Category 6" hotel), an upgrade to Diamond VIP tier status for one year, and a $10,000 cash prize. Seriously. The next top 993 fastest race times will each receive 10,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points (good for a one-night stay) and whole year of Diamond VIP status.
You're allowed to complete the race as many times as you wish until April 15; go to the Advance Your World Challenge website to take a stab at it. Fortunately, even though the contest started March 1st, you're only racing against the clock instead of against other participants. One thing, though: you've gotta have an HHonors number to be eligible.
