Don't Expect Cipriani Miami Until at Least 2010

We approach this with great caution, considering the number of hotel/condo projects that have been delayed, postponed or abandoned altogether this year alone, but: remember Cipriani Miami? Remember how it was supposed to open in mid-2009? Yes, well, no surprise here: delays.

Recall that the The Cipriani Ocean Resort and Club Residences in South Beach, a 200ish-room beach resort and private condo development, was on track for completion in mid-2009 the last time we checked. The oh-so-famous Giuseppe Cipriani was bringing his brand to Miami and turning the old Saxony Hotel into an ultra-luxe condo-hotel, with Michele Bonan, the interior designer for the Ferragamo hotels in Italy, set to do the design.

But it's been about a year since we've heard any updates from the Cipriani camp, and the development's website remains un-updated since we last dropped by in June of last year. A bit of digging on Cipriani's central website revealed a new opening date of Summer 2010 — but we won't be holding our breath.

Got any updates on the Cipriani South Beach? Anyone seen how construction appears to be progressing? Please, do tell.
