We didn't think it was possible, actually we truly hoped it wasn't, but we have just possibly pinpointed the least recession-friendly hotel service. Yes, my friends, it's the "Bejeweled Collection" of facials at the brand spanking new Eau Spa in the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach. Having finally fulfilled every Palm Beacher's dream of having a mega-spa around the corner, Eau is set up to slather spa goers in luxury--literally.

Sign up for the $550 Platinum and Bejeweled Face and Body ritual at Eau, and for the next 130 minutes you'll get a platinum face mask, a platinum chakra cleansing, a 50-minute Ruby and Sapphire Massage, and a witch's brew of Ruby or Sapphire-infused elixir. Will this also magically restore your 401K or your job at AIG? No--but it will guarantee you the freshest face in the breadlines.

In fact, Eau spa doesn't pretend to be anything other than a setting for splurging, especially since they've named their central area the "Self-Centered Garden," where guests "can float in swinging chairs above a shallow pool of water, enjoy the warmth of a waterfall cascading on their shoulders, or recline on chaise lounges with a glass of wine." Thanks, but we'd rather enjoy the warmth of our heater and recline on our couch with a glass of wine, all the while indulging in something else: thoughts of how else to spend (or save) $550+tax.

That photo

That picture seriously makes me giggle.
Additionally: what is a chakra cleansing? Like a colon cleansing? I do not believe my chakra lives in my colon. But maybe it does.

diamond dust

They totally stole this idea from Arrested Development. But I must say, I think Tobias pulled off the diamond dust better...

Chakra Lesson

FYI:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakra

Chakra does not have anything to do with colons.

I went to the spa this past weekend, and although I do normally agree with you guys, the write up is a bit harsh.  I loved my experience.  Me and my girlfriends didn't spend a lot of money at the spa, but we hung out all day.  Nice place. I would definitely go back.

Step out of your hole

It is amazing to me how short sited some people can be. I would imagine that you never even went to the spa but can comment on how spending $500 plus leads to least recession-friendly hotel service. Did you contact the Spa and see what other services they offer before you toss around your opinions that the hotel is not concerned about the impact of todays financial platform. I can also see from your story you have never been to the Spa due to your lack of knowledge on different spa treatments. Your article is typical of todays media and the negative reporting that has surfaced. A spa treatment is not designed to save your 401 it purpose to give someone peace of mind. Your piece of mind is sitting with wine on the couch , for others it may just be a $500 spa treatment. I have not personally been to this new spa but I have been to a number of Ritz Carltons and I find they have packages that represent the current economy concerns. Why don't you find a way to communicate the positive things that hotels offer, become a part of getting the hotel industry and America moving again.
