You know the weather is getting warmer in the Midwest when Chicago starts dusting off the barbecue tongs. To herald the imminent arrival of summer and all the gently charred kielbasa that comes along with, the Affinia Hotel is pairing up with The James to host a rigorous BBQ Bootcamp.

Lay down several hundred dollars for a two-night stay package at either property, or purchase individual event tickets for $75, and learn the ropes of gourmet BBQ-ing. Sadly you won't be instructed by the dude pictured above. Instead, star chef David Burke of The James' David Burke Primehouse Restaurant and Marcus Samuelsson of Affinia's C-House will share meat and seafood grilling tips and techniques, host a tasting, and raise a glass at a cocktail reception. Here's what you'll be getting yourself into:

· The BBQ Bootcamp package at the Affinia Chicago, starting at $499 for the two-night stay May 15 and 16, offers two tickets to the BBQ Bootcamp, a private limousine tour of Chicago with champagne and decadent sweet treats from the C-House Candy Bar, and Bossa Nova Brunch for two at C-House on Sunday, May 17. Reservations can be made online at www.affinia.com.
· The James’ Grill Weekend package, available for the nights of May 16 and 17, offers two tickets to the BBQ Bootcamp, a $50 gift certificate to David Burke’s Primehouse, a tour of Primehouse’s on-premise Himalayan salt-tiled dry-aging room with Executive Chef Rick Gresh, and accommodations in a loft suite, starting at $399 per night. Chicago foodies have it a little bit juicier, as they can opt to attend the event on May 16 for $75 per guest, which includes the reception, cooking class, food, and a gift bag stuffed with the day’s recipes.
