Sheraton San Diego Launches Super-Concierge Service

Nothing’s worse than a front desk staffer — or worse, a concierge — who’s not helpful or even very knowledgeable. (Well, OK, plenty of hotel crimes are worse, but it’s a bummer just the same.)

Guests at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina needn’t worry over such a fate. The hotel recently inaugurated the Expedia Local Expert program, an upgraded concierge service that gives guests direct access to tickets to 90-plus activities, attractions, tours, dinner reservations, and more in the area. It’s the first ELE desk for both San Diego and the Sheraton brand, though the program is already in place in many high-end hotels and resorts in Hawaii, Orlando, Mexico, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

The Sheraton SD probably didn’t need much help in the concierge department, considering five seasoned concierge veterans, including one who’s worked on-site for 32 years and another who’s worked for Sheraton for 20-plus years, staff the ELE desk. TA reviews of the hotel include a couple of nice shout-outs to friendly concierges, but otherwise, the reviews of the rest of the property are consistently iffy.

Still, it’s worth noting that the hotel recently finished a $35,000 $35 million renovation renovation that included guestroom upgrades and eco-friendly heating systems. Maybe some of those previous kinks have been smoothed out? Let us know if you’ve stayed here!

    $35,000?

Doesn't go very far when you're refurbing a hotel. Wouldn't even pay for new carpet.

    true

That low figure does seem suspect. The hotel seems proud of it?

    Wrong Number Quoted In Renovation

It was actually a $27 million renovation, that number is a typo.

    renovation

Well that would certainly make a lot more sense! The renovation was described as "a multi-phase $35,000 renovation" in the press release they sent us about the concierge service.

    San Diego Hotel Week

The last comment we received here at SanDiegoHotelWeek.com was not very encouraging, and also a little bit sarcastic i must say.You can read the comment below...
I am glad and proud to announce that we now have more than 20 hotels so far participating to this great project.
I hope that whoever wrote the comment below will correct and update it.

"We hear from our super-secret sources that San Diego will be launching a Hotel Week of specials and deals sometime in the fall, but we can only find one participating hotel so far! That's a far cry from some of the other Hotel Week promotions in cities across the States.

"America's Finest City" has yet to decide on the exact dates, so perhaps that is why this hotel-heavy city hasn't attracted many participating properties. So far, the only one we found was the Mission Valley Comfort Suites, which is near...not much. We'll keep checking back to see what other hotels decide to join the ranks to lure travelers down there, though.

Just in case Hotel Week sputters and there aren't too many hot rates or cool hotels, San Diego says that that there will also be discounts on area attractions, golf, dining and nightlife, so at least there should be something fun to do even if you have to pay full price to stay where you want."
