We've never professed to be geography whiz kids but we'd like to think that we do know at least most of the major and minor countries of the world. However, Tajikistan had us a little confused. Where is this place? And why is there now a Hyatt there?

We had to take it to the interwebs to find out that Tajikistan is located in Central Asia near republics like Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The entire country is no bigger than Wisconsin and was once part of the Soviet Socialist Republic. And we just learned that the Hyatt that's opened there is the country's first international chain hotel.

The Hyatt Regency Dushanbe opening up in the country's capital, Dushanbe. Since we've obviously never been to Tajikistan we can't give you the inside scoop on the hotel's location, but this place sounds nice, with views of the Hisor mountain range from floor to ceiling windows in the guest rooms. And guess what--they even have iPod docks and WiFi, which makes us happy.

Current room rates are starting at $200 a night which sounds okay for a Hyatt Regency but, given that Tajikistan is only slowly making it onto the international visitor radar, probably the priciest place in town.
