The Mandarin Oriental's Suite 5th Anniversary Offer
"In these recessionary times" it takes a little digging to reward yourself with some seriously luxe discounts. Luxury brands, in their struggle to stay in business, are offering some steep discounts that at first glance seem amazing and like, totally bookable. But when you peel back the layers, is it really a deal?
Enter: New York's Mandarin Oriental. After clicking around on their site a bit, we found a sweet suite deal where rooms are as much as 50 percent off. That sounds great, right? But remember these are suites at the Mandarin Oriental in NYC where regular rooms in boom times go for as high as $1,000 a night. Again, for regular rooms.
The Suite Fifth Anniversary offer gives guests three nights in the Premier Central Park View Suite, for only $5,555. (about $1,852 a night.) This is a 50 percent discount what the suites normally go for. So yes, it's a deal but only for the rich. The remaining $5,555 they would have spent can now go to the insane sales at upmarket department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue.
The deal is only good until September 7, 2009 so you better act fast and liquidate your stock portfolio before your husband gets accused of a Ponzi scheme or something. Otherwise, regular room rates start at $595. Ahhh...that's more like it.
