Looks like Joie de Vivre's newest boutique baby, Hotel Maya, is getting a $20 million dollar facelift to help reinvigorate its, um, joie de vivre. The hotel was, as far as we can tell, formerly "Coast Long Beach" — but JDV snapped it up and renamed it, and apparently there is more work to be done to pretty it up.

The Maya will remain open, but renovations are going to be done in "semi-isolated phases" up until the slated completion date of July 1st.

To come:

The newly refurbished guestrooms and suites offer bay, ocean and garden views and most have private balconies. The renovation also includes the addition of a full-size heated lap pool, a Jacuzzi and a water canal that will support private floating cabanas, plus a new restaurant, lobby design, meeting and event space, fitness center and tropical landscaping.

Also on the way (opening July 1) is a new restaurant, Fuego at Hotel Maya, with both indoor seating and a huge outdoor patio with pretty views of downtown Long Beach and the adjacent marina (where the Queen Mary is!) plus a 20-seat lounge. The resto will feature a lively “grotto” bar with "the region’s finest selection of tequila" (oooh, yes, you're intrigued).

If you've booked a stay for a night prior to July 1st, make sure you give the hotel a call to check and see if the construction may affect your experience. Or squelch your joie de vivre.
