Down in Arizona, the JW Marriott Starr Pass will be turning off its lights at 8:30 on the 28th yet another big property showing support for taking global action on climate change.
On a larger scale, Starwood Hotels just announced their commitment participating in Earth Hour, too. In more than 90,000 hotel rooms across the Starwood brands, guests will be encouraged to turn off the lights. Participating properties will take action in a few different ways:
Starwood hotels will take several momentous measures, including turning off exterior signage lighting; dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting; using candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and bars; and informing guests about the hotel's observation of Earth Hour through in-room voicemail messages and guest room television messages. Additionally, hundreds of Starwood hotels around the world are coordinating supplementary awareness events such as walk-a-thons in their local communities, public candlelight unplugged concerts, and guest receptions featuring signature green cocktails.
It makes us happy to see so many big properties and major chains participating in a movement like this. After all, it's one thing to stick little signs in guest bathrooms encouraging them to re-use their towels but it takes a bit of extra commitment to stand up and participate in a movement like this.
