Party On With the Lights Off for Earth Hour at Langham Hotels

Our minds are sorta blown by this whole Earth Hour thing. Look, we're not just in awe of the global scope and general concept of Earth Hour (the period of time starting at 8:30 on March 28th where people across the world will be shutting off their lights to promote their support of taking action against global warming).

But we're also shocked by the sheer number of pop songs about turning off lights that have popped (heh) into our heads as we've written about the various hotel companies observing Earth Hour this year: "Baby When the Lights Go Out" by 5ive. "Turn Off the Light" by Nelly Furtado. "Turn Your Lights Down Low" by Bob Marley. There are so many jams about turning off lights.

And we'd like to sing one of these songs for Langham Hotels, who will be participating in Earth Hour at select properties across the hotel chain.

At the Langham Boston, all exterior lighting will be shut down for the designated 8:30-9:30 hour, and an Earth Hour letter (on eco-friendly paper!) will be given to guests on March 28th along with an energy efficient light bulb to take home.

There will be a soy-candlelit reception with organic wine and local cheese during Earth Hour itself, and the hotel's spa will be offering special "Down to Earth" packages — and 10% of those March 28th package proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund.

Oh, also! The front desk will be providing glow sticks to guests if you want to get your rave on during that soy-candlelit reception. Perhaps someone will be around to provide an a cappella rendition of Britney Spears' "Kill the Lights."

Langham Hotels in Auckland and Hong Kong will also participate in Earth Hour.

Yay for Earth Hour

good on you, Langhams. Didn't Earth Hour start down here in Australia? I think so and if so I'm proud :-) and I'll be in the dark on Sat night.

hotel lighting

yes! it is great to see that there are hotels that care about saving energy especially energy saving light bulbs. Down here in Florida everbody is talking "green" but not really doing much about it. Hotels are interested in compact fluorescent light bulbs and new LED light bulbs except they do not want to purchase.
