The De Soleil South Beach has been passed around so much, it's really hard to keep track of all the changes. Thanks to tipster Tony ("you're gggreeeat!"), we learned that the hotel is now branded a Crowne Plaza Hotel under Intercontinental Hotels' ownership.

The hotel started its life as The Regent South Beach. Then it became the Vincci South Beach. Then it landed on De Soleil. And now, Crowne Plaza.

We're not sure when the CP acquisition reflagging happened but we sure hope it sticks for a while. Still, we have to imagine that Chef Govind Armstrong of the hotel's trendy restaurant Table 8, must be cringing over the fact that his restaurant now belongs to Crowne Plaza.

Rooms for the weekend of April 3-5 were starting at $315 a night for a king room. Just remember, the entire place is nonsmoking.

no acquisition, probably just a license deal.

De soleil

You said "we learned that the hotel is now a Crowne Plaza Hotel under Intercontinental Hotels."
It is my understanding that it is just the other way round. It's an Intercontinental Hotel Group Hotel under Crowne Plaza management. But its character as a Boutique Hotel has not been compromised.

You're right.

Sorry to be unclear; we fixed the wording on that. :) Thanks, everyone!

De Soleil

I stayed there last month having booked on the IHG website (it appeared mid-January). There is virtually no Crowne Plaza branding anywhere (the most I could find in the room was the Sleep Advantage CD) - it is still Hotel De Soleil, just using IHG's reservation system.

Please clarify this story

Hi there. Our ad agency is doing work for this property, and I think it should be clarified that this hotel will not be known as a Crowne Plaza, but will be under management by Intercontinental Hotels Group.

It is being unveiled as Z Ocean Hotel South Beach in just a few weeks, and will continue to operate as a first-rate boutique hotel.
