What was once the Rialto Hotel on Collins in Melbourne is now the Intercontinental Melbourne the Rialto and judging from some early guest reviews and a very warm Age review, the change has really done the place good.

Being on Collins Street in central Melbourne gives this Intercontinental the advantage of a good location to start with, and since Melbourne's a place where a lot of stuff happens right there in the city center, location is an especially important factor.

The A$18 million revamp that Intercontinental has done seems to be very popular--the lobby and atrium area, for example, which most of the rooms overlook, is impressive enough to make most people comment on it, and as far as the rooms go, comments like "the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in" definitely bode well.

For the quality you get, rates are extremely reasonable--doubles start from A$220 ($150) and you can often get cheaper last-minute rates which are a real bargain. We'd have to say this is probably our first choice for our next stay in Melbourne later this year.
