Europe: nice place, shame about the currency. With the Euro strong as ever (okay, the dollar’s climbing against it, but you’ll still only get 79 measly cents for every dollar you hand over), it’s tough hopping across the pond.

So what to do? Go over this year all the same and work overtime to pay for those bills you’re going to be racking up? Or stick around at home until Obama gets you more bang for your buck?

Well here’s some news that might nudge you in the direction of the airport: Barcelona’s Hotel Casanova just announced that it’ll be operating a one-to-one exchange rate between the US dollar and the euro for this year. So instead of a standard double room (which weighs in at €112) setting you back $141, it’ll stick at $112.

The lockdown is valid for all hotel charges too – whether that’s restaurant bills, bar tabs or spa treatments.

As for the hotel, it’s pretty groovy (or so it reckons), and quite central, sitting just west of the top of Las Ramblas. Although you might be hard pressed to leave it if doing so means facing the real exchange rate.
