The pinkety-pink Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki resurfaced after a major renovation on January 29th, and the famed "Pink Palace of the Pacific" has made over its 529 guest rooms and is throwing a seriously lavish party to celebrate this Saturday.

For guests who want to join in on the pink fling, the hotel is offering a special "Grand Opening Gala" package that includes three nights in a Garden View guest room, daily breakfast for two at the Surf Lanai restaurant, two tix to the Grand Opening Gala, two pre-gala event tickets, a hotel tour, a take-home gift — and the satisfaction of knowing you spent $1,680 at a Hawaii hotel in a time where businesses out in the 50th state really, really need it.

The LA Times recently visited the property and had this to say about the new look:

The room was small, with a small marble bath with stall shower and limited counter space. But it had nice high ceilings, a ceiling fan, two closets, a coffee maker, safe, iron and board, Frette linens, Wi-Fi and flat-screen TV. In one closet hung two plush pink terry robes. Missing: a mini-bar and a good reading light.

To tone down the pink throughout the hotel -- and to replace the pink floral wallpaper in guest rooms -- the architects and designers introduced a color scheme of moss green and chocolate, accented with a palette of pinks. The décor in my room was busy, with a pair of chairs in a pink-accented floral pattern, a moss green rug with swirls of chocolate, draperies in a broad horizontal stripe and stylized pineapple wallpaper in silver and pink on the wall behind the bed.

Hmmm. We're totally not going to say anything about that carpet we know about. Nope. Not a thing. At the very least, you can deal with the carpeting for that fabled $19.27 room rate.
