Another day, another new hotel joining the UK ranks. This time, it’s the turn of the Fitzwilliam Hotel in Belfast – and this time, the hotel has actually opened, rather than just been put on the cards like Nottingham’s mourHotel.

If you're still nursing a hangover somewhere in Dublin, perhaps a change of hotel will help you out. Just don't stare to hard at the rug.

The Fitzwilliam the sister hotel of the five star Fitzwilliam in Dublin, which is a pretty good sign – as are the “designer fabrics” and “personal soundtrack from CD players with iPod onnections” it’s boasting about. Bathrooms come with a bath and a “sunflower shower” (does anyone know what that is?) , although we’re not personally so keen on the H20 smellies – we wouldn’t be racing to snaffle them. Oh, and there’s free broadband, which you can’t take for granted in the UK.

There’s only one review on TripAdvisor so far, which gives it a glowing “100% all round”, though we’re not convinced that that’s not coming from a member of staff. We’ll keep an eye on what the following weeks do.

As for the prices – it’s currently showing up £105 for a double, which is just about still affordable for a weekend break. If that would break the bank, click onto their website for a competition to win two nights in a Junior Suite.
