Don’t know who Carlos Gardel is, or why your stay should revolve around him? Here’s where we drop a little dance history knowledge on you. Alternately called “The King of Tango,” and “El Mago” (The Magician), Gardel lived early in the 20th century, is the most famous tango singer in Argentine history, and wrote songs like “Buenos Aires mi querido,” or "Buenos Aires my love." So pay your respects!
As for the hotel, the Hilton is located in the quickly glitzifying neighborhood of Puerto Madero, across Santiago Calatrava’s suspension bridge from the main sites of the city center, and just down the block from the Faena Hotel + Universe, so there are some great clubs in the vicinity, though for the best restaurants, you might have to take a taxi.
The guest rooms are what you’d expect from a Hilton, mostly non-descript with some nice, clean furniture, but at least you have high-speed internet, 32-inch LCD TV’s and marble bathrooms.
Though the $259 package rate is more than the $214 basic rate we were able to find, at least it comes with all those extras. (It's actually even down a bit from over the summer.) And who doesn’t want a techno tango CD as a souvenir?
