Zihuatanejo Hotel Help:: March Getaway for $200 or Less a Night

Once again, we have a question from a reader about where to stay in Zihuatanejo. Over the summer, we looked at some hotels for honeymooners. This time reader Gary wants to know about a quiet hotel for a March getaway:

My wife and I are going down there for 3 days in March and want a nice, quiet beach hotel to relax, without breaking the bank. Our budget is up to $200/nt and we would like to be within walking distance to shops and restaurants if possible, since we won't be getting a car.

Based on your review, Brisas del Mar looked promising. Any others that you can recommend?

Mexico hotel expert Tim Leffel actually did the review of Brisas del Mar during a trip to Zihuatanejo over a year ago and he also popped in at the Casa que Canta hotel which has been picked several times as a top romantic getaway. Rates in the Fall of 2007 were high at $400+ a night and when we checked for next month, rates were close to $500 a night. That said, Brisas del Mar might be your best affordable pick.

However, if you can splurge a little the Tides Zihuatanejo has some specials going on including airfare credits and discounts for booking far in advance.

Readers: Any other Zihuatanejo suggestions for Gary? Let him know in comments below.

    For that amount...

I have found that any of the hotels that aren't The Tides or Casa Que Canta are unacceptable down there... Sorry. I would recommend your friend either rent a home or stay just outside of town. There is a fabulous villa rental spot in Troncones which is about 45 minutes north of Zihuatanejo... Unfortunately, even though Zi used to be the last great untouched spot, the rifraf from Ixtapa is starting to filter in and new developments are rapidly deteriorating the quiet fishing village. Check this out... http://www.casadelasirena.net/
