A kind of sepia-tinged vintage wonderland, the Principe's Winter Garden bar has long been known as the place to show your face after a long day of being all glamorous and making the fashion rounds.
The news that the legendary Hotel Principe is "restructuring" is distressing in that it is the type of grand hotel which usually never changes anything, and is therefore a trust bastion of familiar luxury. We once walked in here, and the brief experience was sufficient enough for us to write postcards saying "we visited The Principe di Savoia today" with breathy excitement.
Perhaps the rumored shifting of the bar is something akin to what The Plaza did with closing their Palm Court; the two are similar in appearance and pricing, and two Fashion Weeks a year will not be enough to keep it afloat if it is failing. We only hope that they are just buffing up the place, and not buffing it out. Until a definite answer comes through, relish the 360-degree image of the bar here.
