In the midst of the bleakest economic times for Las Vegas in recent memory comes the opening of the city’s newest, aspiring “must-see” hotel-casino. M Resort will open its doors to the masses at 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, and unlike some newly opened Las Vegas resorts, there will be no “soft” – i.e., phased – opening of its various amenities. No, M is firing on all cylinders from day one, with (according to its Web site) seven restaurants, six bars, a spa/salon, a 92,000 square-foot casino and five categories of guest rooms ranging from the now standard “resort room” up to a loft suite.

What’s most notable about this resort? That remains to seen on opening day, but in the meantime, we hear the views of the Strip offered through the floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the property are unprecedented. M’s dining options are also reputed to be remarkable, even in this city of celebrity-chef overload.

M’s operating family, the venerable Vegas Marnell clan, have their own vineyards and cattle ranch operations to contribute to the mix and maintain full ownership of all the resort’s eating establishments, unusual for the Vegas resort cuisine scene.

Time will tell whether M Resort, with its off-off-Strip location (hence the memorable vantage point), will succeed in drawing its target audience. In the meantime, it’s a welcome pick-me-up for citizens of Sin City to hail another resort opening. It’s sure a lot more fun than hearing that yet one more development project has delayed its construction timetable indefinitely.

Rates the first full weekend of operation (March 6-8) start at $94 for a resort room; a 1,440 square-foot flat suite runs $374.
