A trade publication, Hotel Business Magazine has reported that the first Edition Hotel will now open in Honolulu in 2010, as a conversion of The Ilikai hotel.
The Ilikai considers itself Hawaii's first high-rise luxury hotel and "Hawaii Five-O" fanatics will recognize it as the building Steve McGarrett stood on as the helicopter zoomed in on him during the show's intro.
As usual, details are sparse on this supposed "first" Edition, but from the Ilikai's website, we found the hotel has over 1,000 rooms and condos spread out over its 30 floors. Not so surprisingly, it was also a former Marriott.
We checked online and rooms are able to be booked through December 24th, 2009. We're assuming after that, the hotel will close down as it undergoes massive renovations. Still, we are a little skeptical. 2010 is an opening date to renovate 1,000 rooms and condos over 30 floors? Gah. That doesn't sound possible. Not even for Bill and Ian.
Also, we have no further updates on the Edition Hotel locations in South Beach and Washington DC which were at one point or another were touted as being the "first" Edition hotels to open. We're still hoping DC will be first. It's much easier on our travel budget.
