The Oscar Parties Keep LA Hotels Kickin'

Last week we asked why the Sunset Tower was still in business. Or rather, we asked what was so special about the Sunset Tower that made the celebs go there so often — and what was so not special that we never heard anything about the hotel besides reports of the famous faces that surfaced there.

Since we asked and nobody answered, we are forced to conclude that celebs and celeb-studded parties just may be keeping the Sunset Tower afloat. This weekend, Graydon Carter's famous swanky Vanity Fair Oscar party was another slam dunk for the property, with more famous faces than just the same ol' JA crew showing up to give the hotel another publicity boost.

The New York Post reports:

Graydon Carter's bash was so exclusive that an unidentified couple paid $60,000 at the charity auction at Elton John's party (see story below left) to attend the party with Elton. The soiree drew all the Oscar nominees and winners including the victorious "Slumdog Millionaire" posse. They were joined by Dennis Hopper, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott, Sidney Poitier, Michael Douglas, Uma Thurman and fiancé Arki Busson. Larry David came with his date, Sherry Stringfield.

This weekend's Oscar parties gave a huge kick-in-the-pants to business at other LA hotels, too: there was a Weinstein Co. and Valentino Garavani event held at the brand new Andaz West Hollywood, where a source told the NY Post that "Victoria Beckham was caught 'rolling her eyes at Kathy Hilton and walking away from her'" (oh snap!).

And the night before the Oscars at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Jeffrey Katzenberg threw a bash where guests reportedly "kept to themselves" among big names Ben Stiller, Steven Speilberg, Jennifer Aniston, J. Lo, Marc Anthony, Seth Rogen and Christopher Walken.
