Is Pop Century the Best of the Disney Pack, Man?

We've stayed at the likes of Gleneagles, as well as a fabulous little hostel in Tarifa, but no hotel has managed to provide us with as much fun as a stay at a Disney World resort.

While we haven't stayed here ourselves, it seems from TripAdvisor reviews that there's few better places to stay in Orlando than at Pop Century Resort, which is sort of like I Love The 80's (and in the case of some rooms, 90's) in hotel form.

It's also said to be clean, budget-friendly and offers good food and friendly staff. And, thanks to that recession thingy, there's no better time to go to Disney, according to this recent New York Times article, which name-checks Pop Century in a current package the resort is offering: a seven-night vacation for the price of four, including admission to the park itself.

"That means a family of four could stay at a Disney-value resort like the Pop Century Resort for $1,375 in late April—a savings of $416," the Times notes, adding that the deal is good through August 15 and also includes a $200 gift card for Disney merchandise or dining if you book for travel in March.

Totally rad, no?

    Love them

I didn't stay at Pop Century but i stayed at the All-Star Music resort, which is one of the Pop Century's sister "value" resorts and it was great. Although I heard pop century was 100x better.

    Ah disney..

    Love the Pop

Okay, so I've been to Disney 3 times.  Once I stayed at the All-Star Sports, which was good, but not fantastic.  Next, we forked out $450/night to stay at the Contemporary, and was treated like shit.  One morning we awoke kinda late, and we were about to walk out when housekeeping knocked and said, "if you don't get out now, you'll have a dirty room 'til tomorrow because I'm not coming back."  But the Pop was amazing.  We decided to go with a value resort, but upgrade with the Magic Your Way Premium Plus Dining plan.  Both were totally worth it.  This was a few years ago, but we paid about $55/night for the room.  It had ample space, and was in a good location.  They send tons of buses to Value resorts because there are so many rooms, and the food court food was of great quality.  I totally recommend this resort to anyone going to disney.  Another tip, it is normally cheaper than both the Holiday-Inn and the Best Western at the gate, so doing disney can be done on a budget.

    Way Cool...

Out of all of the Luxury Hotels Orlando has to offer, I truly believe that the Pop Century Resort Orlando Hotels is the coolest place to stay! It was great for the adults as well as the kids.  We had a blast and will definitely be back!!

    Best value, not best hotel

Disney is really hit or miss, and it depends on what you care about.  The Contemporary is expensive and old.  Personally, I prefer the Grand Floridian or Polynesian, but they are $500ish a night.  If you aren't going to stay right on the monorail, then the value resorts, and the Pop Century in particular, are really good choices.  The middle-of-the-pack resorts are very very iffy.  Either spend or don't.
