Can the Slanket Be the Next Great Hotel Amenity?

February 23, 2009 at 12:01 PM | by | Comments (3)

We're all for quirky-cute hotel amenities. But we know that if quirky-cute and serious practicality were to collide, the Ultimate Hotel Amenity would be born — and just as we were extolling the virtues of a certain fleece wonder over in the comments section at Jaunted, it dawned on us that we may have stumbled upon what has the potential to be one of these Ultimate Hotel Amenities: The Slanket. Yes, the blanket with sleeves.

Think about it: wrapped in the warm embrace of your hotel room Slanket, you would never again find yourself cursing the inoperable in-room thermostats. With an easily-accessible Slanket, you could sit at your desk and do some last-minute presentation prep without freezing your tuches off. You could eat your roomservice comfortably while swaddled in Slankety goodness! Channel surf without having to fight with bedsheets! The possibilities are endless.

The be-sleeved blankets can be chic-ified, too: Maybe Thompson could order 'em in black and have them sitting in the rooms with the Thompson logo monogrammed on there (mockup shown); perhaps Ritz-Carlton could commission a special cashmere edition to sell in the online store; W Hotels could offer purple monogrammed Slankets while Kimpton's, of course, would be animal print.

Like hotel room robes, guests could buy the hotel's Slankets at the end of their stay. And obviously, those newly-purchased Slankets would be traveling home via carry-on bag: as our brothers over at Jaunted pointed out last week, it's only a matter of time until Slankets take to the friendly skies and become ubiquitous on airplanes everywhere.

Would you be into a Slanket in your hotel room? Or would you prefer to just put your robe on backwards? Sound off in the comments.

Where was that Slanket Before Me

I'm the first one to rip the blanket and comforter off my hotel bed because i don't know what's been done on the blankie before I got there by previous guests.....  Can you tell I'm in favor of triple sheeting?

With that said, I wonder if the Slanket can be subjected to the same rigorous extreme hot water, detergent, and bleach washing that I HOPE my hotel towels, sheets and bathrobes were subjected to, prior to my arrival.  I'd hate to see a stain on that used black slanket with the nifty Thompson Logo.

Perhaps the slanket can be shrink wraped and sold new in your room. If you open it, it's yours to keep and take home with you.

That would be one slinkie slanket.

i agree, only new slankets please!

imagine if slankets became a standard in-room amenity and all the local news stations went inside hotels with black lights and undercover cameras? ewww. but i love the idea. imagine a ritz-carlton or four seasons logo on the slanket? hysterical.

Slankie

Oh, how perfect!!  Remember when the airlines let you take the blankets with you in First Class?  Remember when First Class WAS First Class?
