Is the Betsy Ever Going to Open?

Well, the South Beach Wine and Food Festival has officially kicked off down in Miami, and the Betsy Hotel is still not open — and they're not giving us an opening date either.

As you know, the former Betsy Ross Hotel closed down for serious renovations and hoped to debut its new breezy-luxe look in the fall, but as these things sometimes go, they couldn't open their doors until they had all the right paperwork from the city in hand — and it's taken quite some time to get the green light to open, apparently. We've checked weekly — and even heard some very quiet whispers about a February 6th opening — but no such luck.

Again, when we called the hotel today, we were told we couldn't make any rezzies for stays before April. We understand that they're trying to be cautious and not booking guests until they have everything all set and ready to go for their opening (learning from the mistakes of others, perhaps?), but now the word is that they "hope to have a soft-opening sometime in March."

Meanwhile, the new BLT Steak outpost in the hotel seems to be in pretty good shape — good enough shape that the resto is holding an invitation-only preview event this weekend before it opens to the public in early March.
