The Mirage's Renovated Rooms Will Make You Feel Like a Baller For Less

Last week we were sleeping around Las Vegas and our last night was spent inside one of the renovated rooms at the Mirage Las Vegas. These rooms are only about four months old, or new, according to the front desk clerk. And they are beautiful.

We were given a room with two beds because we checked in at noon and a king bed was not available. No big deal, it was just one night. What was a big deal? Walking to the guest elevators from the check-in desk. If you have more than one piece of luggage, use the bell service. The elevators are on the opposite side of the casino. It's a bit of a maze and a bit frustrating when you've pulling been your suitcase all over Las Vegas.

Room Reaction: Once we found the guest elevators, we rode up to the 11th floor. Upon getting out at our stop, we noticed the entire wing's hallways have been renovated as well. There was a bit of an Asian flair although the colors stayed light and neutral with some fanciful coloring in the rugs.

Opening the door we were definitely impressed. While the Flamingo's GO rooms pleased our inner geek goddess (and possibly our inner preteen selves), the Mirage room was all grown up. Sure, there were some pink and lavender colors worked into the bedspreads and some of the prints hanging on the wall but the rest of the room was sophisticated cool.

Amenity Madness: This room had a fully stocked mini-bar, Aqua Lime bath toiletries, bathrobes hanging in the closet, an iHome alarm clock/iPod docking station, a flat-screen TV and a killer desk with a plug panel that is perfect for working on your laptop. Hopefully you don't have to be like us and work on your trips but if you do, this is the best room for it.

Internet Connect: Wireless or wired for $14.99 a day. Funny thing we noticed. As we moved from up the ranks of casino strip properties throughout the week, the internet prices went up. So if you stay in a crappier place, the internet will be cheaper.

What We Didn't Like: We've gushed over the room enough so let's get to what we didn't like. The bathroom toiletries were just so-so. We liked the Flamingo's Gilchrist & Soames kit much better. Also, the view was out the back of the hotel so we could see the Rio but not the Strip.

And while we love having a place for our iPods we like it less when the folks are blasting their music in the room next door. True, it was only 11 on a Thursday in Las Vegas, but we called the front desk anyways to complain. This was still a work trip for us.

Bottom Line: We booked the room via Mirage's website at $67 a night because we used the special promotion codes that were just released. When we go back, we are staying here again.
