A March 16th Opening Date for the Ace New York?

Yesterday, we got our knickers in a knot over the fact that we had some troubles with the soon-to-open Ace NYC's online rezzie system. The hotel was supposed to open up on March 1st, but yesterday the online booking tool told us that no rooms were available at all the first couple weeks of March. Also (possibly related), there's reportedly some shizz going down with regard to the living conditions in the building during the conversion from SRO housing to hotel. Hmmm.

Of course, this could have all been a series of unfortunate coincidences. But as we have been conditioned to expect the worst when it comes to hotel delays and such, we wondered if there was something someone wasn't telling us about that opening date.

Alas, now the rumors are coming in: a tipster tells us that he heard "from someone on the inside" that the new opening date for the Ace NYC is March 16th. We checked the rezzie system — and we're still getting errors for all dates starting March 1st, but March 16th seems to work just fine. Oh, but the rate ain't $99: the site came back with $219 for a Standard King and $679 for a Loft.
