Is The Ace Hotel NYC Still Opening March 1?
Well, it's supposed to be gettin' close to go-time for the Ace Hotel in NYC. Their opening has been scheduled for March 1st for quite some time now (since the original opening date was pushed back) but when we signed onto the Ace website to book us some of those rumored $99 rooms, we kept getting error messages. Is their website not functioning correctly? Is the hotel totally full for, like, every night the first two weeks of March? Hmmm.
This raises a bit of suspicion, considering how the conversion from SRO housing to boutique hotel seems to be going over. When we first posted news about the Ace's opening, our comment thread exploded with a lot of, er, colorful submissions from people who identified themselves as tenants of the building. And just today, Curbed posted an email they'd received from a fairly disgruntled individual who seemed unhappy with the way things were going down in the building.
Is this all a coincidence? Broken website, angry people, difficult SRO-to-hotel transformation? Is the hotel still going to be opening up on March 1st? So far, we've gotten no word from the folks at Ace, but we'll keep you posted if they get back to us to shed any light on the situation.
