This morning things looked positive that the W Scottsdale would be closing at the end of 2009 but K.C. Kavanagh, VP of public relations for W Hotels, has told us that the hotel has no intention of reflagging (in which the W brand would move out of the hotel) and that guests can now book well into 2010 at the hotel. We tried a weekend in February of 2010 and it worked, although the rate was $749 a night.

The hotel is still in foreclosure but Kavanagh wants to assure future guests that this will not impact their hotel stay:

While there is a dispute between Triyar ( the developer of W Scottsdale) and the hotel's construction general contractor which has generated headlines, this is expected to have little or no impact on the day-to-day operations of the hotel or the service we provide our guests. W Hotels, which is not involved in this business dispute, continues to manage and operate the hotels, and it is business as usual on property.

Kavanagh went on to say that the hotel has been sold out "several times over the last few weeks" and that she is confident W will have a "successful future" in Scottsdale.

    Sushi Roku in lobby

    I haven't stayed here (I'm local) but I have had lunch at the Sushi Roku in the lobby, it was fantastic although not many other people there.   The lobby bathroom has LCDs in front of the men's urinals that have attractive women point toward your waistline and laugh at the size of your 'equipment' when you stand in front of it.  They were actually really cool bathrooms.   They also teamed with an Acura dealership to have an MDX on loan as the official car of the hotel.  Other than that, not much to comment...you can't really see it from the Fashion Square Mall and surrounding shops, so I'm guessing this gets overlooked a lot.

    W Scottsdale

    We thoroughly enjoyed our "girls weekend" stay at the W Scottsdale Hotel. Service is amazing and the pool scene exactly what we were looking for. We booked a cabana ahead of time and it is definitely worth the extra expense--especially if you have a group and split it. Rooms are fairly expensive for Hotels Scottsdale but our offseason rate was good.

    Love W Hotel

    We love our stay at this Hotel Scottsdale, it is in a great location.  We enjoyed dining at Sushi Roku, it actually got voted the best Japanese restaurant by North Valley Magazine.  We had so much fun at the bars and the pool.  Definitely, W Scottsdale is one of our favorite Scottsdale Hotels, and we would stay here again.
