Monterey is not exactly known for its budget accommodations, however seedy Cannery Row’s past might have been. So it seems that the Spindrift Inn has decided to conform, renovating its rooms in what it calls “European elegance.”

From what we can tell, that means the Inn’s 45 rooms have gotten hardwood floors, over-stuffed feather bedding, little sitting areas, marble bathrooms with nickel fittings, and traditional furnishings (except for the flatscreen TV’s, or course) decorated in green and red tones.

The guest rooms all have either ocean views—complete with loveseats to cuddle while you contemplate the currents—or overlook Cannery Row, and there are wood-burning marble fireplaces to warm you up after a day of ocean breezes. Just be sure not to miss out on the daily complimentary wine and cheese in the lobby from 4-6pm. You don’t even have to leave the property to get a bite to eat at the hotel’s Paradiso Trattoria, which serves seafood, pasta, and has an oyster bar with a pretty impressive variety of the slippery suckers.

Without sounding too much like a press release, we’ll agree that the Inn enjoys the perfect location in Monterey, right on the water, and just down the street from the world-famous aquarium and the Cannery Outlet Stores.

To celebrate the new design, the Spindrift is offering guestrooms starting at $149 per night on weeknights ($199 for an ocean view), and $179 on weekends ($229 for an ocean view) now through March 31.
