W Scottsdale To Close At the End of 2009?

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time for the W Scottsdale. From several opening delays to noisy parties that pissed off the neighbors to disputes between the developers and the owners over money, the W hotel has been cursed from the start.

And now it will be put out of its misery. According to a source inside W Hotels:

So, apparently the W Scottsdale won’t be able to recover from its issues in time to keep their flag. They are officially closing at the end of 2009. Sad...it’s such a nice property.

No surprise here but it's such a shame that the developer and owner could not pull this project together. However, if the W is closing at the end of 2009 you still have almost a year to redeem or earn SPG points for staying there. No word yet on what type of hotel will take its place. Since we're in a gossipy mood today, if anyone has more dirt on the hotel closing, please email us.
