Pod Hotel's $199 Townhouse Suites Are Decidedly Un-Podlike

When we went inside NYC's Pod Hotel, we opened the door to our bunk room and were shocked at its miniscule size. Even for $169 a night in a prime Big Apple location, we were a bit let down — and the bed was, as we said, "quite frankly, hideous. Thin, hard and narrow -- that's what we'd like to sculpt ourselves into if we had the dedication to go to a gym. That's not what we like in a bed." Still, we'd be up for a lil' Podding if we were traveling by ourselves and were down for spending zero time in our room and were willing to deal with the bunk bed.

But! Now the Pod Hotel has introduced a cheap, large-ish and appealing option for families (or groups of 3-4) with the completion of their new Townhouse Suites.

Starting at a crazy cheap $199 per night (seriously, $199 to sleep 3-4 in NYC is a steal), the suites have a whole bunch of funky amenities to keep the kids — or your fellow Spring break travel buds — entertained:

Design features such as hanging Lucite globe swing chairs, Fatboy bean bags and pod poufs, rocking chairs and Kool-Aid colored JM Rizzi original murals add pizzazz to each suite and complement techy amenities like iPhone/iPod docking stations, high-definition wall-mounted LCD televisions and free Wi-Fi.

Each 336 square-foot suite has a queen-sized Sealy Celestial bed (so if you hate the mattress, at least you know what it's called so you don't buy one for your next apartment), a twin daybed, a living area and a private bathroom with a tub of your very own (as opposed to the communal bathrooms the standard room guests get to enjoy).

There are only five Townhouse Suites in the hotel, so they may be hard to come by — especially when the college kiddies find out they can crash in NYC for 50 bucks a person.
